Problem

A Midwestern life science facility was experiencing excessive foaming in their glassware washing application. The foam problem was so extensive that during glassware washing operation foam would actually come up through the floor drains in several locations. The current chemical vendor was unable to solve the problem, which resulted in the technicians operating the glassware washers to discontinue using any detergent thus eliminating the slip and fall risk created by the foam coming up through the floor drains. The discontinuing of detergent use in this critical glassware cleaning operation created a sanitation issue that could not be ignored.

Solution

Sanitation Strategies agreed to solve the glassware washing issue as the new sanitation chemical vendor. After using the standard glassware cleaners in our product line, we discovered that we too had a problem with foam coming up from the floor drains and in the washer itself. We realized that this was not a typical foam control issue and decided to obtain a sample of the primary soil source along with the water used to supply the glassware washers. The water and primary soil source, which happened to have a high fat and high protein content, were sent to our laboratory for analysis. After numerous tests it was discovered that under normal glassware washing conditions the soil sample would cause the typically low foaming glassware detergents to foam. Our chemists went to work to identify a new glassware detergent that would provide all of the typical characteristics commonly found in this type of detergent but also handle the foaming issue that had crippled the glassware operation at our new customer. After two days in the lab our team of formulators struck gold and identified a new formula that controlled the foam created by the soil being removed in the glassware washers. Our new custom formula was named ULTRAWASH, appropriately named for its ability to provide excellent glassware cleaning while controlling a ferocious foam that most detergents just can't handle!

Benefit

Our happy customer is now able to maintain proper sanitation protocols without creating unnecessary risks associated with too much foam. Contact Sanitation Strategies today to learn more about this solution and many more.
